How to Make A Gradient Blur PFP in Photoshop

In this tutorial I will show you to recreate the gradient blur trend popping up all over the internet. To start, pick out your base image and bring it into Photoshop. Then do your best to select the subject from the background. You can do this easily with Photoshops select subject button, and go into mask and refine to select out hair. Then I used the lasso tool to cut out just the subjects head.

The next step is to add the blur. First duplicate the layer (ctrl-J) and go to filter > blur > motion blur. And set the angle to 0 degrees and distance to around 200. Then add a mask to the second layer and with the brush paint away half the subject.

On to the last step! Super simple here, add whatever gradient you want. I inverted the black and whites, this can be done by switching the black and white sides on the gradient panel or clicking the reverse button. And congratulations, you are finished!
